Let’s Rodeo San Antonio!

Let’s Rodeo San Antonio!

SAR BoardMembers of the San Antonio Rodeo Executive Committee

During the last few months I’ve attended events hosted by the San Antonio Rodeo and in all my interactions with their committees and volunteers, I have always felt welcomed by an organization that is truly driven by it’s mission of helping Texas Youth obtain scholarships!!   As one of those fortunate S.A.L.E. scholarship recipients it was wonderful to be able to meet the people who are “first hand” bringing to life the dreams of higher education.  I’d like to personally thank every S.A.L.E. contributor, volunteer and sponsor for investing into my future and for the opportunities my scholarship will create. I especially appreciate the chance to meet you all and it has been my honor to work with you this rodeo season.

 SAR Flags

Proud to carry the flag for the 9x winner of the “PRCA Large Indoor Pro Rodeo Award”

Any where you go in San Antonio or at any event in town, you’ll probably run into someone that is on the San Antonio Rodeo Staff or a volunteer for the Rodeo and you can bet that they are serious about their job and focused on the mission of raising money for the youth of Texas as well as holding onto the title of “PRCA LARGE INDOOR PRO RODEO OF THE YEAR“!!!   What an amazing production and what an experience it was to be able to work with Mr. Keith Martin, Glenn Allan, Randy Corley and Hadley Barrett as well as to carry flags for the largest indoor pro rodeo in the world.  A huge thank you goes out to Cervi Championship Pro Rodeo for letting me ride their beautiful black horses.

Mutton bustin w maddiew rowlands girls

Karoline & Madalyn Rowlands are two of the cutest (and toughest)    Mutton Bustin’ Rodeo Queens – Ever!

During the rodeo I tried to soak in every moment that San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo had to offer and some of my favorite memories happened during the mutton bustin’! It’s always such a joy to see the kids faces light up when they make their first ride on a sheep or experience a rodeo for the first time. Kids like these two precious girls, Karoline and Madalyn Rowlands are the future stars of rodeo (and probably the Rodeo Queen world too) and let me tell you, after seeing the Mutton Busters at all the rodeos this year… I believe that the future of rodeo is looking very bright!

photo 5The “Ropin’ Dreams” Special Needs Rodeo has a special place in my heart!

Because of everything that our family has gone through with my younger brother, Joe, I always look forward to any opportunity to work with organizations like “Ropin’ Dreams”.  They have made it their mission to create special moments and opportunities for special kids like this little man, Lincoln Wood.  He brought his family to the San Antonio Rodeo and always had the biggest smile on his face!  He was so happy to get to hang out with the cowboys that he had everyone smiling too.  Lincoln was the hit of the entire Ropin’ Dreams event and I really appreciate him taking a moment to pose for a picture with me.  You can learn more about this organization and how you can support this special cause or get involved at www.ropindreams.com .

Valentines day with Billy and BrendaBilly & Brenda Harris surprised me with Red Roses for Valentines Day!

I have been blessed with amazing support from the Miss Rodeo Texas Board and especially from my “San Antonio Parents” Billy and Brenda Harris.  They always look out for me and make sure I’m safe at all the events, but on Valentine’s Day they surprised me with Roses at the rodeo.  I just can’t thank them enough for their thoughtfulness, kindness and support this year!  “I Love you guys!!!”

SAR w Rick PhemisterMr Rick Phemister is the amazing artist and owner of Heads or Tails Hats who donated my gorgeous custom Texas Hat!

Rick Phemister has donated a beautiful “Heads or Tails” hat to several Miss Rodeo Texas in the past and I was extremely excited to receive one this year.  It is absolutely gorgeous!  I was glad to get to meet him in San Antonio and thank him in person.  I always get stopped by people asking me “who made your hat?” and I am always happy to send them his way!  He is also a super guy who is extremely kind and funny.  So if you are ever looking for a unique custom hat, please give my friend Rick Phemister at Heads or Tails Hats a call or look them up online at www.headsortailshats.com

SAR Radio interviewEarly morning radio interview on Y100 to promote the Rodeo!

SnakeAnyone that knows me – understands the courage it took to take this picture!

The exhibit and vendor buildings are some of my favorite places to visit during the day before the rodeo kicks off.  Somehow the reptile guy figured out that I was afraid of snakes so he wanted to show me how harmless this one was so I wouldn’t be afraid anymore.  I have to admit it wasn’t as bad as I expected but I don’t think I’ll be picking another one up anytime soon.

hayleigh and JerriTwo of Rodeo’s Biggest fans… Jeri & Hayleigh Lansford

Throughout the years my family has been very blessed to meet some amazing and wonderful people that we have developed life long friendships with.  I count those friendships as precious blessings and that includes Jeri and Hayleigh Lansford.  Many of you may be familiar with Hayleigh as she is quickly becoming known as Rodeo’s biggest fan, A title that she has definitely earned, but not by herself.  Her mother Jeri is amazing and can always be found just a step away with a watchful eye making certain that Hayleigh’s taken care of.  I hadn’t seen them in quite a while, so I was so excited that I ran into this dynamic duo at San Antonio.  They have always supported me and been a cheerleader for many of the Rodeo Queens out there.  If you don’t know Miss Hayleigh, you’re missing out on a huge blessing!  Take the time to say hi and get to know her on facebook… I’m sure she’ll teach you a thing or two about rodeo!!

carnival ride w family 2Having fun at the carnival with my family

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo committee was so sweet to me as well as my family!  They even invited my family to attend the Rodeo Finals. It was a wonderful treat to see them, show them around the grounds and also hang out at the carnival for a little bit with my little brothers and sister. (yes they made me go on the Ferris Wheel!)  They also toured the Alamo the next day but my little brother said his favorite thing was getting to see me on the big screen! (Yep… He’s my biggest fan!)

All the girlsMy life-long friends and new family~ Jenny, Emily and Rebecca

I am so thankful for the generosity of this rodeo and the new family I have added to my own.  I’d like to thank every one of the committees and volunteers by name because each of you have a special place in my heart and made this event one of my favorite memories of the year – but I’m certain I would inadvertently leave someone out, but please know that I appreciate you all so very much!  I got to work with the Mutton Bustin / Hospitality staff quite a bit and you guys know that I absolutely had a blast with you and I can’t thank you enough for keeping me from starving during those weeks of the rodeo! (a special thanks for the ranch crackers 😉 ) I am especially thankful for the team of ladies that I worked with and depended on daily.  I couldn’t have survived without them! These ladies made the days fly by with laughter and great memories… so to San Antonio Rodeo’s “Nanny” Sharon and her team that kept me on track… Jenny, Emily and Rebecca, I Love you girls more than those amazing ranch crackers! (so you know that’s A LOT!!!) 🙂

Steph and Rebecca

Rebecca was an intern at San Antonio Rodeo this year from TX A&M

I really can’t believe how quickly the year is flying by.  If I haven’t seen you at a rodeo yet, I hope you get the chance to come soon… We have some great ones still to come in Austin, Houston, Corpus Christi, Jasper, Jacksonville and many more.

I’ll see you down the Rodeo Trail!
