Miss Rodeo Texas always get invited to some of the Best Events around and recently I was able to go to an event with my friend and Miss Rodeo Texas Teen, Hannah Tomlinson, when we attended the “COWGIRLS LIVE FOREVER FASHION SHOW” in San Antonio.  This amazing organization has raised and given away over $950,000 in scholarships in support of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo mission to support Agriculture and Education for the Youth of Texas!

IMG_8326Prior to the Fashion Show we took pictures with Billy and Brenda Harris and the Texas Heritage Riders.  This group of Horseman (and Women) travel across Texas supporting wonderful causes such as the Wounded Warriors.  They also spend a lot of their own time raising money for scholarships for S.A.L.E. as well as participating in Parades.  I’ve been honored to attend some of these appearances with them, and ride one of their gorgeous Palomino horses (pictured here).  This group has become an extended family for me here in San Antonio and I’m always happy to see them.

IMG_8360Every year, the Cowgirls Live Forever organization recognizes an honoree whose life exemplifies the independence, courage and resilience of the Texas Cowgirl.  These characteristics help to preserve our western heritage, shape Texas agriculture and the youth of Texas. This year Karen Hixon was recognized as the 2014 honoree.

Love it!)

Fashion show runwayThe Cowgirls live forever Fashion Show featured fashions for the other models by Julian Gold and they were absolutely gorgeous, but in true cowgirl tradition, Hannah and I wore our hats, boots and bling.  What an honor it was to represent our western roots and cowgirl sisters on the stage that day!  Raising money for Texas Scholarships, supporting Agriculture and Rodeo… We’ve got the best job ever!  Long Live Cowgirls!

    Viva Las Vegas!

This is my Mom and I in front of the MGM Grand Hotel where the Miss Rodeo America Competition took place Welcome to the MGM Grand Hotel ! (My mom and I)

Looking back… The memory of flying into Las Vegas seems like a dream now, but it really happened!  After 7 years of dreaming, planning and preparing, I was honored to walk into the MGM Grand Hotel wearing the Miss Rodeo Texas Crown and representing the state that I love!

The Miss Rodeo America Staff, Committee and volunteers made it so much fun for all of the girls.  Don’t get me wrong, there were also a lot of late nights and early mornings, but the experience was all I believed it could be and much more.  One of the best things about the contest was the support that I received from the Miss Rodeo Texas Organization, my family and our friends.  Every time I stepped on stage I knew that I was surrounded by people that were supporting me and of course… Texas cheers were the loudest of all!!!

I wanted to acknowledge each of you that made the trip to Vegas to watch and support me. I cannot explain how much that means to me, because I guess it’s a feeling that only the heart can understand!  All I can say is “Thank You so much!!!”  To those that were cheering me on from home and those that sent emails and flowers, I want you all to know that your support and encouragement was felt across the miles and you helped me get through each event and every day. (I love you guys!!!) I also want to thank the wonderfully talented designers that helped me pull my wardrobe together for this big event!  Kristi Sampson of Kristi Q Designs, Jan Faulkner, Donna Riva, Julie Ewing and Vicki Brodrick.  I love, appreciate and respect each of you for your talents and the heart that you put into each piece.  Thanks also to Erica and Brent Hodge of Barstow Rodeo for creating my custom chaps that I love!

I enjoy and look forward to the speech portion of any competition and I feel extremely proud to have won the Best Speech Award at Miss Rodeo Texas and now at Miss Rodeo America with the speech written for me by my Mom.  It is a tremendous honor because there were so many great speeches.  I want to take a moment to thank My Mom for all that she has done to support me in this journey (including hauling all my stuff from Texas to Vegas with the help of our friend Kellie Carr) “I couldn’t have done this without your help.”   I also want to thank my Step Dad Jason who fought the ice storms in Dallas for days to finally get to Vegas in time to escort me on stage!  “You guys are the best family a girl could ask for and I love you all!”

On my trip to Cheyenne, WY in July, I got to meet some of the other State Queens.  Makenzie Maughn, Miss Rodeo Utah and Brayvyn Brockman, Miss Rodeo Wisconsin were two of them.  Brayvyn and I have become great friends and helped each other get ready for the contest but I must say that she has got to be one of the funniest people I’ve ever met!  “Thanks Brayv for always keeping it light and making me laugh!”  I had the honor of rooming with Makenzie during the Pageant and I could not have asked for a better roomie!  She is an amazing person, competitor and friend.  I dare say that we had too much fun and I think the lack of sleep contributed to our inability to stop laughing at times but neither one of us seemed to care.  “Thanks for making this one of the best memories of my life Mak.  I love ya and I will never forgot ya!”

I have learned so much about myself throughout this journey and I am so grateful for it.  The outcome may not have been what I set out to accomplish, but I trust that it is exactly where God intended me to be and in that, I can find satisfaction and comfort.  I want to extend a big Congratulations to Paige Nicholson of Mississippi.  She is a beautiful person inside and out and will represent the PRCA well as the newly crowned 2014 Miss Rodeo America!  (I look forward to seeing you again at the Houston Rodeo!)

As we all know… it is not always where we end up that matters the most, but it is what we accomplish, who we help, the memories we make and the impressions we leave behind that really count!  That is where I am doubly blessed! Throughout my year and especially during the MRA competition I have met some wonderful people, made life long friends and created memories I will treasure the rest of my life!  I pray that the impact I leave behind is as positive as the impact each of you have had on my life.

The best part of this all, is that I get to come home to the best place and the best people on earth… TEXAS!

With Thanks and Appreciation,

Happy Holidays from beautiful San Antonio

Noche de los Reyes Gala

It’s been a very busy few weeks, but I was so excited to attend the Gala benefiting the Rey Feo Consejo Educational Foundation recently in San Antonio with one of our MRT Committee Members, Tawana Timberlake and her Husband, Mark.  It was my first time to attend a Fiesta and boy oh boy was I in for a treat!  They had guys walking around (and dancing) on stilts, Congo lines that never ended and limbo contests… Yes, I did the limbo in my leather dress and No, I didn’t win…  LOL!  The event was a huge success, a new Rey Feo was crowned and a tremendous amount of fun was had by everyone in attendance.Stilt Walkers

A special thanks to my generous hosts, Mark and Tawana Timberlake for inviting me to the event and for introducing me to an amazing organization with a group of wonderful people.

Getting Ready for the Miss Rodeo America Pageant & Las Vegas!

It’s so hard to believe that it’s already been 5 months since the Miss Rodeo Texas Pageant and the day my world changed forever!  It has been an amazing journey and I feel extremely blessed to be walking this path.  As I write this, we are just a few days away from the Miss Rodeo America Pageant and I’d like to take this opportunity to share a few words and thank a few people who have given so much of themselves.

First off, to the Miss Rodeo Texas Board, Committee, Mr. Wayne Zamzow and Ms. Marjorie… Thank you all for everything that you do for me personally to give me this opportunity and to carry on the traditions of the Miss Rodeo Texas Organization.  I feel that it is a huge honor to wear this crown and it means even more now, because I’ve been able to know the hearts and hands behind the scenes.  I’ve also had the opportunity to spend some extra time with a few people at events or in preparation for Miss Rodeo America and I want to specifically thank, Billy & Brenda Harris, Tawana Timberlake, Devin Felger Sisk, Terry Chandler, Frances Bendele, Linda Ebest, Terri Turner Matkin, Angela David, Kelly & Cindy Baxley and last but definitely not least – Ms. Dawn Brenner.  I always hate to name names for fear of missing someone, but each of these people have made a personal difference in my life and my journey so I wanted to publicly acknowledge them for all that they have done!  There are many others who have also stepped up and helped along the way and I wish I could name them all, but please know that each and every one of you that have poured your time and heart into me and this journey in any way are greatly appreciated and loved!  Thank you so much!!!

I have had some exciting adventures as Miss Rodeo Texas, met some amazing Texans as well as visitors to our beautiful State and I’ve had the opportunity to share my love of Texas with some Nebraskan & Wyoming Rodeo Fans.  All in all, it has been a journey beyond my wildest dreams and I wouldn’t trade these memories for anything in the world!  No matter where I travel, Texans are known to be the most welcoming, friendly and gracious people in the world and I am honored to count myself as one!

As I prepare to represent this great state at the Miss Rodeo America Pageant December 2-9th, I will take all of the love, encouragement and support that I’ve received over the last 5 months with me to Las Vegas as I do my very best to make you all proud and to bring home the Miss Rodeo America Crown to the best place on Earth… TEXAS!

If you are on Facebook, the MRA People’s Choice Award Voting begins Monday, December 2nd and I would really appreciate your support.

Sending you Holiday Wishes ~ and Rodeo Dreams,

Steph w little girl
