Palomino Fest- Uvalde, Texas

Howdy Miss Rodeo Texas Fans,

As the highly anticipated three day Labor Day weekend comes to an end, I hope everyone had a good time with family and friends! I know I sure had a great time at the Palomino Fest in Uvalde, Texas. Last Friday, I went to five different Elementary Schools. I loved visiting with the children about school, ways to work hard to achieve your dreams, and the great sport of rodeo.

Upon walking into one of the schools, two young students stopped and were watching me walk into the room in awe. One of them whispered into the other’s ear, “I think she is a Champion. Yes, she definitely looks like a Champion!” These little moments warm my heart and will forever hold a special place in my memory! The young ones always bring a smile to my face, as you never know what types of questions or comments they will make! At the end of my speech, I opened for questions. The students really impressed me with how smart and inquisitive they were. One little boy asked me where I got my belt and buckle from. I replied that I won it when I won Miss Rodeo Texas. The young boy then responded almost in disbelief, “Really, it looks like the belts of WWE Wrestling?!” We all laughed together and I assured him that I didn’t have to wrestle anyone to win it! After visiting the schools I went out to the Palomino Fest CPRA Rodeo. At the rodeo I was able to do a presentation ride, visit with fans, and sign autographs.

Saturday morning came bright and early as the Heritage Riders and I got ready for the parade. I would like to thank Billy Harris for letting me ride his horse, Jazz, and the Heritage Riders for letting me ride with them. The Heritage Riders all ride beautiful matching Palomino horses with gorgeous saddles decked out with silver. I was so honored to be able to ride on such a good looking horse. It was exciting to see the town shut down and all the citizens of Uvalde to come out and cheer for the parade. The Heritage Riders won the prestigious title of Best Overall Entry in the parade! It was great to see them win this well-deserved title!

I would like to thank the Uvalde Area Chamber of Commerce, Olivia, Ashley, the Palomino Fest Rodeo Committee, and the Heritage Riders for a great time in Uvalde, Texas!

Happy Trails,

Dallas Western Market

Howdy Miss Rodeo Texas Fans,

A cowgirl’s three favorite things: her horse, rodeos, and of course shopping!  A little shopping is exactly what Marjorie Murphy, Miss Rodeo Texas State Director, Linda Ebest,Miss Rodeo Texas Chaperone, and I did last weekend at the Dallas Western Market. The Dallas Western Market is held every March and August inside Fashion Center Dallas. This market is very unique and features western garments and accessories for both men and women. I was so excited to scope out the newest trends in western fashions.

While at Dallas Market, we stopped at a few of the Miss Rodeo Texas organization’s gracious sponsors to tell them thank you, and let them know we are grateful for their support. Our first stop was the Wrangler store, where we visited and thanked Wrangler for keeping me dressed this year as Miss Rodeo Texas in my favorite brand of jeans.

Next we went on to the Kippy’s showroom, where we were greeted by Bob Kipperman, Paige, and Denise. Bob was one of my judges at the 2012 Miss Rodeo Texas pageant. I had a great time catching up, sharing laughs, and trying on his blinged-out jackets and belts! After stopping by Kippy’s, Marjorie, Linda, and I went to Patricia and Sam Wolf’s showroom. Patricia and Sam specialize in unique western fashions and offer a trendy western collection ranging from fun hats, belts, gloves, and clothing. Sam and Patricia are  former Miss Rodeo Texas judges.

During the pageant last June, the contestants and I were so fortunate to be able to model designs from both Kippy and Patricia Wolf’s line at the fashion show. Both of these designers have been very supportive of the pageant and are greatly appreciated. We all had a terrific time being outfitted by these talented designers and showcasing our personalities on stage at the pageant.
At this point, we had worked up quite an appetite and decided to head over to Highland Park and have lunch at Café Pacific. The three of us enjoyed a delicious lunch in this beautiful section of Dallas before heading back to market to finish shopping.

Just as we were headed back to the airport, it began pouring down rain. After a three hour flight delay at the airport, we finally weathered the storm and made it back to San Antonio safely. Our trip to Dallas was wonderful, and I enjoyed spending time with our sponsors and former Miss Rodeo Texas judges.

Happy Trails,

Mesquite Pro Rodeo

Howdy Miss Rodeo Texas Fans,

Last weekend my travels took me to Mesquite, Texas for the Mesquite Pro Rodeo. This Pro Rodeo has a very long history and is in its 55th season. Upon my arrival I was greeted by the very friendly Mesquite Rodeo committee. They were so welcoming and gave me a tour of their facilities. I was very thankful that this is an indoor arena and that I was able to beat the heat for the weekend! Prior to the rodeo I signed autographs at the visitors’ center.

It was great to be able to visit with new rodeo fans that were passing through as well as longtime fans of the Mesquite Rodeo. I met two gentlemen who had traveled all the way from Germany to take a ‘Tour of Texas.’ They are huge rodeo fans and happened to find out about the rodeo just in time to make it over to watch the show. They were so excited to meet me and get a few pictures. It is moments like this that make me realize how big of an impact the sport of rodeo has on people all over the world, and I must say that I am very proud to play a role in promoting such a great sport.

During the rodeo I made a presentation ride around the arena aboard my trusty steed “Termite,” and helped the little ones with the Mutton Bustin’! Also, I was able to do a media interview with former Miss Rodeo Texas 2005 Joanna Blackwell Huckabee. I was very appreciative that she thought of me and included me as one of her interviewees both Friday and Saturday night.

Ladies and gentlemen if you haven’t made it out to Mesquite, there is still time left. The rodeo series continues on for two more weeks with exciting rodeo action Friday and Saturday night starting at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to bring your family and friends and get there early so you will have time to enjoy some Texas BBQ, the petting zoo, pony rides, and visit the western store.

I would like to thank the Mesquite Rodeo Committee for allowing me to come to the Mesquite Rodeo and for being very hospitable. Also, I would like to extend a big thank you to Joanna and Deanna for making me feel very welcome in Mesquite and for making my weekend so enjoyable!

Happy Trails,
