Howdy Miss Rodeo Texas Fans,
This past weekend my travels took me to Uvalde, Texas for the 2012 World Gliding Championship Tournament. It was an exciting event show casing pilots from around the world. There were 120 pilots from 33 different countries competing for the prestigious title of World Champion!

On Friday night I went to the Kick off BBQ to meet the contestants and gliding fans. I had a great time signing autographs and meeting people from different countries. I had a wonderful time visiting with the guests, eating BBQ, and dancing the night away! It was really neat to be able to teach them the Texas Two Step, Cotton Eyed Joe, and of course we couldn’t leave out the Chicken Dance to the competitors and their families!

Saturday morning, I was up bright and early for the parade. The parade was done in an “Olympic Style” with each country represented by their own float. We rolled a mile and a half down highway 83, and through the center of town. It was such a huge honor to be able to represent the United States and Team USA. I have a deep love for antique cars, and was very excited to discover that I would be riding in a Cadillac El Dorado. During the parade the entire town was shut down as the citizens came out to watch and cheer. After the parade was over, we went on to the opening ceremonies. Approximately 300 spectators joined to watch the pilots as each team raised their country’s flag and the competition officially kicked off.

If you get a chance to head out to Uvalde go check out the World Gliding Championship Tournament which will continue on from August 5-17, 2012. I know you will have a great time watching these very talented pilots as they race across the blue skies as well as taking place in the other fun festivities during the competition.

I would like to thank the Uvalde Chamber of Commerce and Olivia Rish for inviting me to this spectacular event. Also, I would like to thank the Elder family for their hospitality and for hosting me at the beautiful “Eldorado” this weekend. My weekend was filled with laughs and great memories thanks to the kind people of Uvalde, Texas and the Gliding participants.
Happy Trails,
Rosanna Pace
