The first weekend of June, I headed north to Brownwood for one of my last trips as Miss Rodeo Texas. It was a wonderful weekend filled with friendly people, beautiful weather, and some great rodeo action!
This rodeo kept me busy and was so much fun to be a part of! The performance started
as most rodeos do, with the grand entry, national anthem, and prayer; one of the many reasons why I LOVE this sport. After that, I was introduced along with the Brown County Rodeo Queen , Emily, and any other visiting royalty at the rodeo. Throughout the performance, we ran sponsor flags and pushed cattle out during the timed events. Getting to be horseback for the entire rodeo is one of my very favorite things! At the end of the rodeo, we would go meet with the crowd to sign autographs and take pictures.
In addition to being a part of the rodeo, Emily and I also got to participate in many promotional events throughout the Brownwood community. Our first stop was at a local radio station. We were joined by the the Lone Star Cowgirls, announcer, TC Long, barrelman, Ronald Burton, stock contractor, James Andrews, and the pickup men. We all put our rodeo knowledge to the test in an on-air, boys against girls, rodeo trivia game. The good news is that the girls’ team won!! The bad news is that the questions may have been skewed specifically for that outcome… Regardless, both teams did a great job! Next, we headed to a school, nursing home, and the Boys and Girls Club to talk about the rodeo and answer questions. I always enjoy getting to share my passion for this way of life while getting to know new people. I was especially impressed by how genuinely interested the children at the Boys and Girls Club were in
learning about rodeo, horses, and even our own life stories. An entire room full of kids quietly listened as we spoke and answered their questions. After we finished answering questions, they wanted to take pictures and have autographs signed, even asking for us to sign their clothes! (I hope there aren’t some angry Brownwood moms while they’re doing their kids’ laundry :/) Overall, it was such a good day. I have been so blessed this year to be in a position where I get to know and spend time with new people all over the country!
There were many people that made my trip to Brownwood such a great experience! I can’t thank the Florence family enough for bringing their horse for me to ride each night and helping with anything I needed. Thank y’all for all of your hard work! Thank you also to Anna Hernandez and Brent Moseley for being my contacts throughout my stay in Brownwood. I really appreciate each of them helping and guiding me throughout the weekend. I would also like to thank the rest of the Brown County Rodeo Committee for being so friendly and hospitable. Y’all made Brownwood such a fun rodeo!
