Home Sweet Home…. TEXAS!
After an amazing trip to Burwell and Cheyenne it was so nice to be back home and in Texas for a few days before I was off to my next adventure. Even when I’m home, there’s still a lot to do as Miss Rodeo Texas so I was excited to take a break when Ms. Marjorie and I were invited to visit with Ms. Wanda Waters. Ms. Waters was one of the judges at the MRT Pageant in June and she treated us to a tour of her beautiful ranch and lunch at her daughter’s restaurant, The Laurel Tree in Utopia. If you ever get a chance to go – it may be a bit of a drive and they are only open for lunch and dinner on Saturday, but it’s well worth it! It’s a beautiful place, with friendly staff and the food is to die for!!! “Thank you Laurel and Wanda for sharing your special place with us. I’m pretty sure that we will find a way to come back soon!”
Mesquite Championship Pro Rodeo Series
It was very exciting to be back in North Texas for the August 9th and 10th performances of the Mesquite Rodeo. I am so proud that the PRCA Rodeos still say a prayer or invocation before each performance and I am always honored to carry the American Flag for our National Anthem.
The Mesquite Championship Pro Rodeo is a 12 week series beginning May 31st and this is their 56th Season. The Top 10 come back for the finals on August 23rd and 24th. The PRCA Announcer this weekend was Creed Roberts, who always does a wonderful job and I was honored to work with him at both performances. It was my first time to meet Mr. Kenny Petet and he did a great job of entertaining the crowd. Mesquite Rodeo has some fun events for the kids, such as the Shenaniganz Dash for Cash – which is a calf scramble for T-Shirts and $$$, so… ALL the kids show up. It is 5 minutes of crazy fun!

This little girl was so excited to talk with me – This was me not too long ago and one of the reasons that I love being a Rodeo Queen!
One of the coolest things about attending the Mesquite Championship Pro Rodeo was that they also have Women’s Pro Rodeo Association events during the performance, in addition to the traditional Barrels. It was awesome to see the WPRA ladies Team Rope and Breakaway. For those rodeo fans that aren’t familiar with these events it was a great way to introduce them and I had several opportunities to talk with people about it. Way to go MESQUITE!!!! The girls also showed the boys how mutton bustin’ is done… both nights!
A special thank you goes out to Joanna (Blackwell) Huckabee, Miss Rodeo Texas 2006. She is the in house reporter and production director for the Mesquite Rodeo and does an awesome job! I sincerely appreciate being invited to attend and I also want to thank the Mesquite Championship Pro Rodeo team for being so welcoming and Stace Smith Pro Rodeo for providing me with a beautiful AQHA palomino to ride.
