It was good to be back home with my Rodeo Austin “FAMILY”… Where the motto is “Where WEIRD meets WESTERN”!
As a former Miss Rodeo Austin Princess (MRAP 2011) it was an absolute honor to come back to Austin as Miss Rodeo Texas. It was especially awesome to be joined by my friends, the beautiful lady I handed my MRAP crown to, Hannah Tomlinson (in 2012), now the Miss Rodeo Texas Teen and our current MRT princess, Kate Johnson.
With my favorite TX girls, Kate Johnson & Hannah Tomlinson!
I absolutely LOVE the people at Rodeo Austin and it was wonderful to be able to come back and work with them again. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better group of people with bigger hearts than the people in Rodeo and Austin is definitely one of my favorites. This year, the pageant was held at the beautiful and historic Driskill Hotel downtown. What an amazing setting for the Fashion Show & MRA Coronation which was held in conjunction with the Rodeo Austin Art Show and Competition. I was asked to Emcee the pageant and Art show awards with someone that I not only respect but I really enjoy – Ben Benavides. He is an amazing announcer and excellent co-host. “Thanks for making us look good Ben!”

Prior to this journey as MRT, my year as Miss Rodeo Austin Princess had been my biggest title, greatest year of growth and my best memories as a Rodeo Queen. I received so much more than just a great scholarship as MRAP. I acquired a ton of experience traveling the state, making appearances, attending galas and fundraisers, working with volunteers and working the rodeo for 15 days! I guess you could say that I literally grew up as a queen in Austin. I believe that my year as MRAP was what prepared me for being Miss Rodeo Texas and was a huge contributor to the amazing year I’m having now. (Thanks Tonya & Erin!) To have a chance to give back to this organization that I consider a part of my family is an honor and a privilege.

Girls in Texas know that our Rodeo Queen contests are tough and this year at Austin was probably one of the toughest… but then again, who wouldn’t want to compete for two chances at $16,000 in scholarships and the opportunity to wear the coveted Rodeo Austin Crown!?! It was an extremely tight competition and I was extremely proud of all the girls!

One of the most touching moments of the competition and one that I will treasure was when Bucky Lamb, the CEO of Rodeo Austin spoke about the Miss Rodeo Austin Pageant and said some incredibly kind things about me. It’s these kinds of moments that are a confirmation that I’m doing what God intended and create memories that last a lifetime making me want to come back year after year to support this group! “Thank you Bucky for always supporting and encouraging me. I hope to always make you guys proud!”

Alex Ingram and McKenna Greene did an amazing job of representing Austin during their year and I know both girls have a bright future ahead of them in whatever they do! I remember how bittersweet it was to give up my Austin crown, but they have handed the crowns down to two very fortunate young ladies who will now have the honor and responsibility of carrying on the Miss Rodeo Austin Traditions & Reputations. Congratulations to Bailee Ackerman (MRAP 2014) & Lisa Lageschaar (MRA 2014), I know you ladies will have the best year of your life!!

I was able to come back for the Rodeo Austin Shoot Out and first three days with the new queens. It was so much fun being around Hadley Barrett, Wayne Brooks, Bennie Beutler and the whole Rodeo Austin family! (yes, these guys truly are a family!) Thanks to Beutler & Son Rodeo Company for providing me with a fabulous horse!
I also got to seem some of the ladies that were on the MRA Committee when I held the title in 2011. Once again, it was like coming home to family! So good to see Erica and Allison again.

Two of my Rodeo Austin favorites, Erica & Allison!
I feel extremely blessed an honored to be counted as part of the Rodeo Austin Family, be in their history books and support their efforts of putting scholarship money back into the College Accounts of Texas Youth! It’s a comforting thought to know that no matter where I go in Texas I have a Rodeo Family that’s watching over me, but no family is as close as the ones I have from Austin! So until March 2015…. Stay weird Austin! 🙂
